The Nike Air Max Plus, designed by Sean McDowell, may not receive the same level of praise as its predecessors, but it undeniably holds a significant place in the brand’s history. Now, as this iconic sneaker celebrates its 25th anniversary, Nike is seizing the opportunity to make a splash by releasing new colorways of the beloved shoe and unveiling the highly anticipated Air Max Plus Drift.

According to renowned sneaker journalist Brendan Dunne from Complex, the Nike Air Max Plus Drift is set to make its debut in the summer of 2024. The silhouette appears to draw inspiration from the original Air Max Plus, combining its distinct tooling with a fresh upper design. A sneak peek at this successor to the iconic Tuned Air reveals a breathable mesh base, complemented by a curved molded overlay that spans the length of the shoe. While McDowell’s design serves as a clear foundation for the Air Max Plus Drift, the updated model distinguishes itself with palm tree-inspired profile detailing, boasting a more substantial construction. The Swoosh branding also takes a different approach, extending from the mid-foot all the way to the heel, further setting this modern offering apart from its ’90s predecessor. Maintaining the essence of the first Tuned Air tooling, the sole units feature whale-tail shaped shanks and border, while the forefoot showcases new finishes on the rubber traction.

The newest addition to the esteemed Tuned Air lineage is expected to make its grand entrance in a vibrant array of gradient color schemes. Neon yellow, “Light Silver,” and “Concord” are just a few of the reported hues set to grace the initial release. Excitingly, the most attention-grabbing iteration will be exclusively available through Nike NBHD (short for “neighborhood”) retailer partners, as revealed by Dunne. As always, release details are subject to change, but enthusiasts can tentatively anticipate the Air Max Plus Drift hitting store shelves in April 2024.

In terms of pricing, the Air Max Plus Drift will carry a price tag of $185 USD, a $10 increase from the standard Air Max Plus. While avid sneakerheads eagerly await the opportunity to snag a pair from nike.com, they can enjoy visuals of a beige colorway courtesy of select retailers.
