Last August, Nike took a fresh spin on the iconic Air Max 1 by giving it a denim makeover. Now, a year later, the design by Tinker Hatfield is back with its original 1986 Big Bubble tooling, but this time it features a more toned-down denim texture.
The upper of the shoe seamlessly combines various textiles, including thick suede, tumbled leather, and a sturdy denim structure. The majority of the denim is in dark shades that complement the supple leather mudguard and heel, along with the “Anthracite” tinted denim mid-foot overlay and heel counter. Adding a touch of contrast, the low-top trim’s underlays come in a pastel shade, giving the suede vamp and upper collar a subtle blue hue. Meanwhile, the “Pink Foam” tongue construction brings back the denim treatment.
Similar to its upcoming OG “Royal” version, this rendition of the Nike Air Max 1 features a “Coconut Milk” sole unit that showcases the silhouette’s enlarged four-chamber cushioning system.
Sneakerheads can expect the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Black Denim” to hit stores in the spring of 2024, with a retail price of $170. But for now, you can feast your eyes on detailed images of the shoe.
